Hope you all had a great Mother’s day!  In keeping with our new tradition, C and the other men in the family cooked the women an awesome lunch.  This year it was a Greek theme (last year was Italian).  They made hummus, cucumber sauce, tahini sauce, falafel, some lemony soup I forget the name of, salad, and Gyros.  Delicious!  We were almost too stuffed to fit in any of the awesome cake that Taylor made before we left for our little afternoon getaway (a movie).  I’m not sure what kind of cake it was, but it’s filling was a rum icing, and it was topped with a fudgy chocolate icing.  YUM.

Then we all (the gals– the guys went Saturday night) went out and saw the new Star Trek.  Most of us really liked it.  I did miss having C to hold onto during the intense parts (which was like, the whole movie).  It was nice to have time to hang out just the girls though.  Ginny and I or Gma and I get that about once a week (though usually with kids), but we don’t have as much time with my mom.

I almost forgot!  We got to surprise Gma with a big kitchen aid to help her with her sourdough bread making!  My friend Lori went to an estate sale (I watched her kids for her), and found the practically new kitchenaid.  She called me up trying to find SOMEONE that would take advantage of the deal.  I jumped on the chance, since I knew Gma has been wanting one!  It’s the 75th annivesary edition, so it’s a cool pearlized color, plus it comes with the original cookbook, an extra bowl, and all the usual attachments (including dough hook).  We got a really great deal on it too!  She left excited to try it out.  Thanks again Lori!

Horse Ride!

We went to the Rivermarket Saturday morning.  Check out what B got to do.  It was the only fun he had the whole time, because I was just so tired.  Poor kid.  I had fun anyway though.  Mom met us there, and we found some great food, including Squash flowers!  Those I stuffed and fried today using this recipe.  Pretty cool! The only thing I would change is: put more salt in the polenta.  I served them up for the whole family along with grilled chicken and corn (ala Chad).

After the farmer’s market we all met my G-ma at a great Indian buffet and gorged ourselves, then the girls went to see Mama Mia. Chad watched the kids.  It was a fun movie, cheesy and cute.  Made us wish for fruity drinks, the beach, and dancing.  I came away thinking maybe Pierce Brosnan is better than Colin Firth now.  It’s hard to say that about Mr. Darcy.

And here’s my latest craft.  5 minutes a day for a few days and I now have 4 new bibs.  Don’t you love that fabric!?

Last, but now least.  A very dear friend had her birthday today.  I kind of missed it, because she lives in Thailand, but I think she’ll understand. 🙂  Love you and miss you Morgan!!!  Happy Birthday!

Well, I haven’t gotten a lot done lately obviously. Here are the things I have in the works:

Fabric for an Amy Butler Nappy (diaper) bag for a friend. I’ve already washed it, so now I just need a little time to cut it out!

I finally started the baby sweater!

And just a cute pic to share:

Fabric

Very soon I’ll have some completed embroidered napkins to share. At least by Monday I’d say…

I got to see a preview of Stardust on Wednesday night.  A fun flick!  All those like me that love fantasy have to go check it out. 🙂

Movies

I got to hang out with my mom last night for the first time in I-don’t-know-how-long. Got to go to Taco Bueno… my favorite pregnant place to eat. 🙂 I grew up on their Mexi Dips and Chips in Ok, and boy was I happy when one moved in right down the road from us!

Then I got to see two movies I’ve been wanting to see for a long time!!

Waitress

We went to the theatre to see Waitress. I really like it. First of all I love Keri Russell. I’m a big fan of her old show– Felicity.

The show was really cute, quirky, and pretty sad at times.  I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone (deanna) ;), but I might just want to buy it.

Miss Potter

The second movie Mom just loaned to me.  I watched it with Chad when I got home.  It was good too, even if it’s a little weird.  Ewan McGregor has been a favorite of mine since Moulin Rouge.  It was full of really beautiful scenery.  I really want her farm! 🙂

Bronto

Presenting Dino #2! I might just make the Saturday deadline! 🙂 This one went a little faster, except it seemed nearly impossible to stuff it completely.

Dandelions

Here we are at the park teaching Brendan to plant weeds. 🙂

B

B and I were lazy this morning and watched “Everyone’s Hero” as we snuggled in bed (and ate breakfast there– shhh, don’t tell Chad!). hehe   It was really cute!  Both of us liked it.  Getting us ready to spend half our summer at the ball field as usual.

I’m Back

Posted on: April 12, 2007

So, I haven’t really felt like crafting or blogging lately. And the stuff I have done I’ve forgotten to take pictures of, of course. Today I have decided that I need to get back into the swing of things. Today I’m going to blog about all the media that I’ve been watching/reading/listening to lately.

Butch Walker

First off on the list is Butch Walker’s cd Letters . Chad got the cd because of a random recommendation (which is how he gets most of his cd’s I think), and I really like it! I’ve been listening to it in the car a lot, and yes is very Pop, but what’s wrong with that? 🙂

Finally finished the Tower of Shadows, which I requested from the library on a whim. I’m not even sure how I heard about it.  Probably just on Amazon.   I almost didn’t keep reading after the first couple of chapters, because it seemed a little too dark for me (which is actually saying a lot), but I’m glad that I kept going, because I actually liked it.  Not the best writing ever, but not everyone is George RR Martin.  Speaking of George… I’m really itching to read Fevre Dream again.

Oh!  I just remembered!  Another of my favorite authors has a new book, and I just found out yesterday!   I don’t know if I’m going to be able to wait for the library to get it in… they have it on order.

Finally saw Casino Royale (the new James Bond movie).  I may be one of the few, I don’t know, but I really liked this the best of the all of them. I’m not usually a big fan.  I like the new Bond… I’ve liked the actor is other movies.  He’s pretty good looking to say the least. 🙂

Pursuit of Happyness: man, was that a depressing movie.  Will Smith and his son were great though!

And last of all– The Holiday.  I loved Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black.  I almost even liked Cameran Diaz (that’s a big step for me!).  Jude Law is really great.  I loved his character.  I do have a thing for English actors I guess (Colin Firth is all I’ll say here).

I’ll be back soon with craftiness… promise!

Kitchen

I really love this room… I think the only thing I would do differently is have a less rustic table. Something more classic looking like this. I found it on this new website through a blog I read. I also liked their Green tips.

I watched Eragon today.   I couldn’t believe how much they changed it from the book.  It wasn’t a great movie either.  I thought the special effects were decent, but I’m not a big critic of that.  It has some good scenery.  Some good actors.  Hmm… that’s about it!  🙂

Crunchy Cons

When my husband, Chad, first read about this book I think he was a little surprised to find out there were more people like me. 🙂 I was really excited about it, but of course it’s taken me this long to read it. I’m about half-way through, and although I can’t say that I agree with him 100% (much to Chad’s relief), I can say that I am really enjoying this book. It’s great to see some of your half-formed ideas fully explained, and your crunchy beliefs adequately defended. I just finished the chapter “Home” and really loved it. I’ve always dreamed of buying an old Victorian house and renovating it, and this chapter just convinced me that I absolutely need to stick to that dream. Maybe not a Victorian, but an old house with charm… maybe a bungalow (those are more common around KC). Anyway, here are a few points from the “Crunchy Con Manifesto” that I particularly like:

#6 A good rule of thumb: Small and Local and Old and Particular are to be preferred over Big and Global and New and Abstract.

#7 Appreciation of aesthetic quality- that is, beauty- is not a luxury, but key to a good life.

#9 We share Russel Kirk’s that “the best way to rear up a new generation of friends to the Permanent Things is to beget children, and read to them o’ evenings, and teach them what is worthy of praise: the wise parent is the conservator of ancient truths…. The institution most essential to conserve is the family.

Eragon

Just finished this book a week or so ago.  I know the movie got bad reviews, but I’m looking forward to seeing it now.  I would recommend it to younger readers…  I can’t say that it was a book I couldn’t put down, but who doesn’t like a fantasy/dragon book every once in a while?  🙂  Oh, one warning: don’t listen to this on cd as I did.  The narrator is so bad at the dragon voice that I cringed almost every time she (the dragon) spoke.  Maybe I can’t even give this a fair review just because of that, but I’m trying to take it into consideration.

Chad and I watched Stranger than Fiction last night.  He already reviewed it on his blog, and I agree with what he said wholeheartedly.    We really liked it!

The Last Kiss

Chad got me this new cd for V-day. We weren’t huge fans of the movie, although it was good (it felt very true to life). I love the Garden State soundtrack though, and this movie was directed by the same guy, so chances are the cd is equally good. Listened to it in the car a couple time yesterday, and so far my favorite song is definitely Chocolate by Snow Patrol.

We also went to see this movie. We thought it was really good, although I thought it was one of the saddest movies ever. It had a pretty strong pro-life message we thought: the life of just one baby is practically invaluable. I experienced the same frustration after the movie as I did with the last one (Marie Antionette– probably the most aesthetically pleasing movie I’ve ever seen). You get done with the movie and you are still enjoying it, and people around you get up and start saying how stupid it was or how it was the worst movie they have ever seen. I just want to get up and tell them how incredibly ignorant they are. I told Chad that there should be a certain IQ level required to see some movies… apparently Children of Men is one of them. 🙂
